Come join us in returning our Empire property back to its hanis name through Ceremony.
Every one of our coastal nations seems to have a main village site that is really known around the area as the place to go to trade goods. The trade hub for that nation. Hanisiich was this for the hanis coos people. While today many people know this place as the hollering place, this was actually on the other side of the bay. This was the narrowest part of the bay where people would come in order to holler to the people of hanisiich to come pick them up. They would then trade their goods with the wealthy people of hanisiich. Now that our Tribe owns land in this area the Language Committee put forth bringing the name of hanisiich back to this place. This was approved by Tribal Council and our Chief, Doug Barrett will be leading the Naming Ceremony. Finally on March 7th 2026 we will return the hanis name of hanisiich to this place.
