On Sunday August 10th, 2025, The Confederated Tribes of Coos, Lower Umpqua and Siuslaw Indians passed 3 Resolutions approving the sell of Trust Land Timber. This is the first time in the history of the Tribe that Timber Sales have occurred.
The 3 projects are:
- Heluu Timber Sale: 35 acres of Timber on Lake Tract
- Hawatit Timber Sale: 36 acres of Timber on Tioga Tract
- Taqnis Timber Sale: 22 acres of Timber on Lake Tract (surrounding the January 2024 Ice Storm damaged forest lands)
The sales are occurring on the (approx.) 15,000 acres of Forest Land returned to CTCLUSI through the Western Oregon Tribal Fairness Act (WOFTA) of 2017.
It has been a long journey to this point; but time was necessary to create the policies and procedures that allow CTCLUSI to steward our lands in perpetuity. (see Voice of CLUSI Newsletter article June 2025).
All 3 Timber sales adhere to the CTCLUSI Forest Management Plan. The Environmental Review was also approved by CTCLUSI through utilization of the Tribes’ ITAMP status.
The exact dates of activities are not known, as sub-contracts for Timber Operations are currently being solicited. Tribal Members who visit our Forest Lands may soon see work begin on the construction of roads that are required for access to the Timber.
As you visit the Lands, please be respectful and cautious around Timber Operation areas. Never approach an active Timber Harvesting site unless accompanied by a member of the Foresty Team.
The Forestry Department will continue to update Tribal Members on these 3 Projects, and future Projects. If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to me directly.
