CTCLUSI Youth and Young Adults Site Visit of Siuslaw River Estuary Restoration Project
June 1 @ 10:00 am - 2:00 pm
Youth and Young Adults Ages 11-24 are Invited to Visit Restoration Sites on Siuslaw River Estuary
On Sunday, June 1, 2025, CTCLUSI and McKenzie River Trust (MRT) will be hosting a site visit to wetlands undergoing restoration on the Siuslaw River Estuary. Currently, these projects are in their design phase. CTCLUSI, MRT, The Nature Conservancy (TNC) and the engineer (Wolf Water Resources) are working together in partnership to develop designs that best increase tidal wetland health, primarily through channel restoration and tidal swamp and marshland habitat restoration. As these restoration sites are within the Tribes Ancestral Territory, it is an interest to consult with the Tribes regarding potential cultural components that could be included in the final design plans.
Tribal youth and young adults ages 11-24 are invited to visit these restoration sites to spark ideas for these potential cultural components! The addition of a canoe launch/ramp in the haich ikt’at’uu (formerly Waite Ranch) design plan was a direct result of hearing feedback from youth who attended a field trip to haich ikt’at’uu during the New Beginnings for Tribal Students program. As we continue to do restoration work in our Ancestral Homelands, we wish to inform and include Tribal youth and young adults in critical phases of the work. Based on the successes from the New Beginnings for Tribal Students site visit, we think this would be an opportune juncture to invite youth to these additional restoration sites in the Siuslaw Estuary.
Shown is a map of Wren Marsh, North Fork Bend, and Site 59, all of which are the sites of topic. Youth and young adults who attend this trip will visit 2- 3 sites in the day. The trip will be guided by MRT staff (the landowners) and CTCLUSI staff.
While the plan for the day is still in development, please RSVP by May 19th by emailing Dan Kirk at dkirk@ctclusi.org with the name and age of attendee(s). Below are general details, and those who RSVP will shortly thereafter receive additional information on the plan for the day.
