Seeds of Success Community Fellows Field School Internship
July 8, 2024 - July 19, 2024
Community Fellows interns will learn and implement a two-eyed seeing approach to create forests more resilient to climate change and learn how Indigenous Knowledge can help inform conservation and management on the CTCLUSI forest lands. Interns will work in the woods, collect seeds of native plants, and learn about ethnobotany, soil science, pollinator ecology, wildlife, forestry and ecocultural restoration while gaining employment skills in the outdoors.
During the 8-hour daytime sessions interns will be trained by CTCLUSI leaders and Oregon State University graduate students, collect data using science protocols and tools, and learn about forest ecology.
In the evenings there will be group activities such as traditional crafting using indigenous materials, storytelling, and games. Interns will camp during the work week, with the weekend off to go home. All meals will be nutritious and delicious, and private shower and bathroom facilities will be at the campsite.
Internship participants will work alongside OSU College of Forestry faculty and researchers as well as CTCLUSI Natural Resources and Forestry staff, performing research related to the restoration of culturally important plants on the Tribes’ Lake Tract. Meals, transportation, and all work supplies will be provided. This will be an immersive experience, with participants
camping at the Tribes’ Deadwood Property.
A stipend will also be paid to participants after program completion.
