ABUNDANCE STORYMAP

Please enjoy the Abundance StoryMap provided by the modern Tribal government of Confederated Tribes of Coos, Lower Umpqua and Siuslaw to give voice to our stories and culture and enrich public school curriculum in Oregon.

Abundance is a web-based story with pictures, songs, audio and narrative created by the Confederated Tribes of Coos, Lower Umpqua and Siuslaw to share our story and our path. Abundance is a place for everyone to enjoy the culture and practices of the Tribal communities of the Coos, Lower Umpqua and Siuslaw who continue to steward the lands and waters and have since Time Immemorial.

Abundance means to have plenty. While some of our coastal resources are scarce, we still carry abundance of gratitude in our hearts for everything we have. And we show and share our gratitude through our cultural and stewardship practices for healthy communities and ecosystems.

Throughout this story, you will read about the lifeways and languages of the Confederated Tribes of Coos, Lower Umpqua and Siuslaw Indians. You will see quotes from our Ancestors, listen to stories and hear our songs. You will also gain a unique perspective of how we continue to maintain our traditional practices and beliefs that define our unique cultural identity and root our mission as a sovereign nation today!

The lessons and knowledge—passed down by our Ancestors—of Tribal Nations living here on the coast are important contributions to current conversations and decision-making here on the coast and for all people living here, on our traditional homelands, who are working to care for Oregon’s lands and waters. We share the stories, guidance and knowledge here to educate our future generations and youth throughout the state.

All Tribes share a story of endurance and perseverance. This can be seen across the state of Oregon and across the country. And while Tribal histories are all different, we hope you take with you a curiosity about the history of the place where you stand now and an inspiration to stand alongside us on our mission to renew a place of abundance here.
